Here we'll give you a brief introduction to Cleansing Oil. We'll explain how it works, and different ways to use it depending on your personal skincare needs - including acne prone skin. Cleansing Oil is an excellent alternative to using soap to wash your face and facial hair, and makes using a separate moisturizing product unnecessary. Dirt, excess oil, and other pore clogging culprits are dissolved, leaving your face grime free and moisturized, with no greasy residue.

What Is Cleansing Oil?

First of all, if you’re new to oil cleansers you may wonder what all this craziness is. Putting oil on your face?! We have been conditioned to believe that any oil causes breakouts. That’s why almost every face cleanser and moisturizer you see in stores says "oil free". Well, the truth is that stripping your skin of it’s natural layer of lipids, the healthy oils, is what causes your skin to kick into overdrive to try and replace those oils. It’s this overproduction of oil that causes breakouts. So those cleansers that make your skin feel squeaky clean at first are also causing your skin to be too oily. You may have noticed that immediately after you wash your face it begins to feel tight and dry, but by the end of the day your face feels greasy.

Or perhaps you have dry skin and you find that you have to use a moisturizer after washing your face. Common moisturizers are generally formulated with waxes, which are a great skin protectant, but when it comes to moisturizing your face, they mostly sit on the skin and clog your pores. A proper moisturizer will work very much like the sebum our own bodies produce, and will be absorbed by the skin. Cleansing oil is a cleanser and moisturizer all in one. You won’t need to buy or use two different products anymore. Also, you may find that you don’t need to cleanse your face everyday. The important thing is to listen to your skin.

How Does Cleansing Oil Work?

So how does oil actually CLEANSE your face? Essentially there is a chemical process occurring, solubility, in which like dissolves like. A solute will dissolve best in a solvent that has a similar chemical structure to itself. The oil that you are applying is dissolving the old, dirty oil on your face, and gently washing it away. The oil that is left behind is clean and moisturizing. Your skin hasn’t been stripped of it’s natural layer of lipids, which leads to less irritation. So there’s real science behind this old home remedy! You can read more about solubility here.

How Do I Use Cleansing Oil?

Cleansing oil is easy to use, and can be used like most other cleansers. No matter what cleanser you use, it's always important to listen to your skin to determine what it needs. Many adverse skin conditions like dryness, redness, and irritation are caused simply by over washing our faces. Our all natural cleansing oil will help alleviate those issues, but it's still important to pay attention to your skin and adjust your skincare regimen accordingly. How you wash your face will affect the amount of moisture left on your skin, as well as the amount of exfoliation you receive. Below are a few different methods for washing your face with cleansing oil.

The Quick Method - This method is great for those who suffer from dryness or tight skin, or those who don't like to spend more time than necessary getting ready in the morning. Simply squirt a few pumps of The Mod Cabin Cleansing Oil into your hand. Without wetting your face first, massage the cleanser into your face and neck using your fingertips. Rinse your face thoroughly with very warm water, making sure the water isn't too hot. This method can be done in the shower or at the sink. Pat dry. Apply a couple more drops to any areas that feel tight or dry.

The Cotton Ball Method -
This is a great method for those who want a little extra exfoliation, or who prefer not to get their hands messy. Simply squirt a few pumps of cleansing oil directly onto a cotton ball. Again, apply to dry skin by rubbing the cotton ball in circular motions over face and neck. Use extra cleanser as needed. To rinse, wet a new cotton ball with very warm water and wipe the oils away.

The Washcloth Method - This method is great for people who have oily skin, or who would like more of a deep cleansing treatment. Begin in the same manner by massaging the oil into your dry face and neck. Next take a clean washcloth, and wet it completely with very warm water, (always being mindful that the water temperature is not TOO hot.) Ring out the washcloth, and lay it over your face for 30 seconds. This will steam open your pores, and allow the cleanser more time to dissolve dirt and grime. Lastly, gently wipe away any remaining cleanser from your face and neck.

Voila! That's all there is to it. Usually you won’t need to moisturize after the process, but if you feel any dryness just use a few drops of cleansing oil to moisturize the dry areas. Your skin will look and feel healthy and hydrated...naturally.

The Mod Cabin Cleansing Oil is great for all skin types - even acne prone skin, and is a great alternative to using soap for washing your face and facial hair.
