The Mod Cabin is proud to be sponsor the 3rd annual Mid Atlantic Beard and Stache Championships in Richmond Virginia. This year’s event takes place April 26th at the Canal Club.
We recently had a chance to speak to Stephen Brown, one of the event organizers about this year’s event:
TMC: How did the Mid Atlantic Beard & Stache Championships get started?
SB: Chad Roberts is the founder and the president of the RVA Beard League. I wish I had an elaborate story to tell you about how it was created, but I believe Chad had a beard and wanted to share his passion of facial hair with the area.
TMC: What are the different categories for this years competition?
SB: This year we have 12 categories for beards, partial beards, mustaches, and fake beards.
We also have our Longest Beard category for the person who travels the farthest to compete and the coveted Best In Show trophy.
TMC: What do the winners get?
SB: Well for one, the pride and glory of being a Mid-Atlantic Champion, but we have also teamed up all three years with Bishop Stone and Metal Works to create these awesome railroad spike trophies, and we have different companies, including The Mod Cabin throwing in some prizes for the winners as well. (The Mod Cabin will be providing our All-Natural Beard Champions Kit to all twelve winners, which includes our world famous Birch Tar Beard Soap, Beard Oil, Backwoods Beard Balm and Moustache Wax)
TMC: Where do the proceeds go?
SB: Every year we pick a different charity for the event, our way of spreading the love. This year we are very happy to have Safe Harbor on board. They are very local and do a great deal for the community as a shelter for victims of domestic abuse.
TMC: What new stuff can we expect at this year’s event?
SB: Every year it seems like we add a category. Last year we had so many people compete in the full beard categories, we decided to add another one. We decided to split the full beards up by length a little more. So we have our 1″ or less, our 1″-8″, and our Over 8″ categories.
These go along with the Groomed Beard category where a styled stache is allowed, and the Full Beard Styled (or freestyle) category. Last year the Mid-Atlantic Beard and ‘Stache Championships boast to have more competitors cross the stage than any other competition in the U.S., and we hope to continue that tradition. We want to spread the positive outlook of facial hair, and do what we can to help our community while doing that.
Tickets are $10 in advance and can be purchased here or you can buy tickets for $15 at the door. So if you are in the Richmond area April 26th, come on out, see some glorious beards, have a good time and help Safe Harbor empower survivors of sexual and domestic violence to transform their lives, and promote healthy relationships for all!
